Tremor smoothing
What games do
Every console ships input smoothing: the raw stick signal is filtered before the game sees it, so a trembling thumb still draws a steady line. Racing games have done it since the 1990s.
What the web does instead
Nothing. The browser hands every pixel of pointer jitter straight to the page. A 6 px tremor on a 24 px close-button is a coin flip.
What we built
The 1€ Filter (Casiez, Roussel & Vogel, CHI 2012) on each pointer axis. Unlike a moving average, its cutoff varies with speed: heavy damping when nearly still — where tremor lives — and almost none during fast movement — where intent lives. Steady aim without the treacle feeling.
Try it
Turn on Assist with a simulated 12 px tremor, then move your cursor slowly near the buttons below. The teal dot is what the page sees.
